Q.  Can I organise a tailored/private group event?

A.  Beginners without any shotgun experience are welcome to nominate for our 'Birds Only' squads on Wednesday nights starting from 17:00.  A firearms instructor will take you and your squad out to the traps for the duration of the event.  The instructor will provide coaching assistance focusing on club best practices, shooting etiquette and mandatory safety procedures (strictly enforced).

Gun hire, hearing protection and ammunition is available for purchase on request at the administration counter in the club house.  A drivers license (or equivalent photo ID) is required to be surrendered for the duration of the shoot.  Surplus ammunition is to be surrendered at the end of the round.

To transition into club membership - shooters are required to possess a valid firearms license, join the Sporting Shooters Association of Australia (SSAA) and apply for a club membership.  To progress into competition shooting, additionally join the Australian Clay Target Association.

A.  An estimated total cost for a single 'Birds Only' (no competition) event of 20 targets including 25 cartridges, gun hire, shell pouch hire and ear plugs is roughly AUD$25.00.  The MPGC current price list is located here

A.  Here are some fundamental points on club mandate (in no particular order)

  1. It is mandatory for all personal on the grounds to sign the attendance book
  2. Guns are to remain unloaded and in the open position at all times except when on the lanes preparing to shoot
  3. Clean and appropriate attire is to be worn at all times - eg no soiled clothing, open toe shoes etc
  4. It is the shooters responsibility to know what squad they are in and be on the lanes at the time of round commencement
  5. Flora and Fauna is to be protected at all times.  Any abuse will render the shooter banned from the grounds indefinitely at the discretion of the shoot marshal/club committee
  6. When scoring the targets, the referees decision is final
  7. The 'Birds Only' trap remains throwing orange targets in all light conditions
  8. Beginners are permitted to shoot 'Birds Only' for up to and including three Wednesday nights.  After three nights of instruction it is expected that non members apply for an annual club membership and join the SSAA to continue shooting
  9. Clay target shooting is a sport and shooters are expected to behave in a sportsmanship fashion
  10. It is appreciated that spent cartridges once ejected are placed in the bins provided on the lanes
  11. Safety is paramount; any apathy or ignorance toward shoot marshal/instructor direction will not be tolerated
  12. The minimum age for participation is 12 years
